My fearless baby

Lexi is unlike Ian in many ways.  One of them is her bravery.  Ian gets scared at ocean waves, while Lexi charges down to the ocean.  Lexi will try things that she hasn't done before, while Ian has to be shown that it's ok to do things and that he's safe.

There's only a few situations where I think this is a bad thing, and one of the is the pool.  Sure enough on Friday the bravery came out of Lexi down at the pool.  She was swimming in her kiddie ring, and she decides to put her arms up and let go of the ring.  Since she can't swim at all, she sinks right to the bottom and starts dancing on her tippy toes.  I watched the entire thing wondering what her plan was.

Of course, I rush over from 4 feet away and get her up out of the water before anything bad happens, and she's fine.  Held her breath and everything, just opened her eyes so they stung a bit.  She cries for a few seconds, gets her ring, and after I sternly tell her to not let go of it, she tells me, "Lemme lone!"

Back to playing in the pool.  I'm playing with Ian with his "surf" board  skimming him across the pool and turn around.  This time Lexi has already submerged herself, so I again pull her out, and she's fine again.  This time though I put her in timeout, and ask Mamma to go get her wings.  Lexi wants really badly to swim with Ian and the other kids and she's brave enough to try just about anything, including drowning.

The wings are a much better piece of mind.  She can't take them off so I don't have to constantly (10 second checks instead of 2-3 seconds) her sinking to the bottom, but I still can't wait for her to learn to float.
